About This Project

8415 Fountain Avenue

The building located at 8415-8423 Fountain Avenue was built in 1941. The site is at the corner of Fountain Avenue and Olive Drive and is part of the Courtyard Thematic District. The building embodies distinctive characteristics of the Spanish Revival and French Revival style. These elements for Spanish Revival style include the red clay tile roof, corbeled balconies, wrought iron details, and arched entrances. The French Revival style details include the fenestration style with multi-paned vertically oriented windows. Furthermore, a great portion of the building’s original design remains intact. The building contributes to the historical significance of the area because the building’s courtyard design is reflective of the other courtyard buildings in the area. Furthermore, the use of the combined Spanish Revival and French Revival style places the building in the tradition of the “Period Revival” styles that may be seen in many of the other courtyard buildings within the Courtyard Thematic District.
